Egg prices

It's kind of sad when this is a good price.....

Carolineisms

Playing kitchen with Caroline and I offered her a bite of pretend food. She said, "No thanks, I have plenty. "

Encouraging me, "Good girl, Mama."

Sitting quietly alone and I ask, "What are you doing?"
"I pouting."

Discussing a fit she threw the night before when I gave her a bath. Her explanation, "I probably wanted Daddy to do it."

Caroline, "Birds scared of people."
Me, "That's right. Rabbits are scared of people too."
Caroline, "I scared of people too."
Me, "Well Caroline, you are a people."
Caroline, "Nooooo! I not a people!"

Caroline crying because she doesn't want to get her hair combed, "I think I probably not very happy right now."

Thoughts on parenting

"The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him."
  Proverbs 31:1
It is the duty of mothers, as well as fathers, to teach their children what is good, that they may do it, and what is evil, that they may avoid it; when they are young and tender they are most under the mother's eye, and she has then an opportunity of moulding and fashioning their minds well, which she ought not to let slip. Those that have grown up to maturity should often call to mind, and make mention of, the good instructions they received when they were children, for their own admonition, the edification of others, and the honour of those who were the guides of their youth."

"My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother: Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck. When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee."
Proverbs 6:20-22

We must receive it as our father's commandment and the law of our mother, It is God's commandment and his law. But,
(1.) Our parents directed us to it, put it into our hands, trained us up in the knowledge and observance of it, its original and obligation being most sacred. We believe indeed, not for their saying, for we have tried it ourselves and find it to be of God; but we were beholden to them for recommending it to us, and see all the reason in the world to continue in the things we have learned, knowing of whom we have learned them.
(2.) The cautions, counsels, and commands which our parents gave us agree with the word of God, and therefore we must hold them fast. Children, when they are grown up, must remember the law of a good mother, as well as the commandment of a good father.

Matthew Henry

Third anniversary

We had a nice third anniversary. I wore a cute skirt I hadn't worn since before I was pregnant with Luke and did my nails.
Then we got the kids settled for the night around 7 and John went out and got us Chinese take out. Chinese has become our anniversary tradition! After eating all that we had cheese, crackers, grapes and wine on the couch while watching new episodes of Bones. It was a fun relaxing evening even if we were too full to eat the cheesecake I made!

Pizza

I told John I would make him pizza for Father's day.
Working in the kitchen.
If I was going to bake I was going to bake! A loaf of bread, enough sandwich rolls for two dinners, and cinnamon rolls. Most of this went in the freezer.
Pizzas!
Pizza and Smirnoff - yum.

Accountability

This is a post that is just a reminder to keep me accountable (hopefully). I've been horrible at reading since I first got pregnant with Caroline and it's one of my favorite things to do. First it was headaches, exhaustion, then being busy etc. When I do have a moment like while nursing I tend to do the easy thing and scroll through Facebook or blogs. So I've made a goal of taking a few minutes during nap time every day to read one page of Matthew Henry. That seems doable,  I'm reading something worthwhile, and seeing as I've already gotten through Isaiah (pre kids!) maybe I'll eventually finish it. However I do get out of this if I get pregnant again and am dealing with migraines :-)

Visiting deer

This morning we went to visit a deer park with the kids.
Hunter feeding a deer.
Wearing Daddy's hat because Mom forgot his.
Watching deer.
Reading on the way home.

Company

Yesterday we had friends over deep fried turkey.
Most of the food.
Dessert.
Playing with kids.
Duke and his great grandfather. They got along very well!

A day in pictures

My morning began at 6:45.
Caroline is up.
Luke is up. He hangs out here while we have breakfast.
Hutmeal and pancakes with crayons.
My breakfast along with swagbucks.
Crib time - part of how I get a shower every morning.
And the bouncer - the other contribution to Mama's shower.
Dressed and ready for the day.
I nurse and rock Luke before his nap.
And start the laundry. Since it's cloudy the diapers went in the dryer instead of on the line like usual.
Crib time is over and I dress Caroline.
Then she keeps busy while I get busy on the days' work.
One job was making potato salad for tomorrow's company.
Caroline washed and cut up potatoes too.
Then she colored while I cleaned the stove and microwave.
And asked me to shush while baby napped.
Then I had more coffee and made a grocery list. I was excited to see 49 cents a pound chicken legs. That's what we'll be taking to church for the next couple weeks.
24 potatoes and 6 eggs.
Luke is up and it's time for our late morning walk.
We stopped to watch "the big tractor cut trees."
And Caroline sat on her bike.
After lunch Caroline played with Luke while I washed dishes and folded and put away laundry.
She ate apples and watched Daniel while I nursed Luke before his afternoon nap.
Nap time! I cleaned the entry way, watched the Duggar interview, and earned more swagbucks.

After naps we "painted the wagon for awhile.....

Sadly I got very busy and completely forgot to take pictures of our dinner (pea soup and homemade bread from the freezer, sharp cheddar cheese, and spinach salad), and John mowing the lawn. The kids were entertained for quite awhile watching him.
After dinner  John weed eated, and I vacuumed and watched the kids.
Then we played till bedtime. Luke can almost sit by himself. I stay close by just in case.
Playing.
After the kids went to bed I stuffed a load of diapers, painted my nails and we watched a show on Netflix.
By bedtime I had checked a few items off my job list!
