Winter boots

On Saturday I bought something I've wanted for a lonnnng time, a pair of tall black dress boots. I've always liked the look of them and kind of kept an eye out in thrift stores, but never needed them enough to buy a pair new. Then I moved to Wi and found out that my normal ballet flat style dress shoes just don't cut it in the winter, and the hand me down snow boots I was using were way too ugly for dressing up. After a few weeks of no success at Goodwill (they never had my size, or had high heels which I didn't want), John and I went shopping. I was glad to have his expertise at dressing for cold weather. He insisted on a thick sole, and leather, saying that would actually keep me warm, and last forever. Best of all we found something I liked for 60% off! And wow, wearing leggings, socks and boots under my skirt kept me warm in church. That was so nice, normally during church my feet freeze :-(. I'm finally learning to dress properly for this cold. We got me a real winter coat last year (had a great coupon for it :-) ), and John got me some warm gloves. No more dressing like a southern girl these days....

Projects....

Recently John built me this frame so I could make the wedding shadowbox I've been wanting to do for a while. I love having these wedding memories hanging in our bedroom.

He also made this for the dining room wall.

Real food

Back in November Caroline started really liking and eating solid food. This is her first time feeding herself!

Baby

Caroline has a new favorite toy. She carries this doll that we named "Baby" (very original, I know), around everywhere.  Here they are watching baby McDonald together, Caroline's favorite movie.

Arctic Blast

Wisconsin winters are cold. I've had to get used to not going outside for months at a time, except for a quick walk from the house to the garage a couple times a week for church and the grocery store, driving on white roads all the time, and just plain old being cold. I finally understand how someone get excited a bout a 'warm' day in the 30s in midwinter. I didn't get that when I lived in SC, but now I realize that does feel warm compared to most days. BUT the weather this past week is the coldest I have ever experienced! I didn't manage to catch  a picture, but the temp dropped down to -22, and according to the news channel we had windchills of -50. We stayed below 0 for over 50 hours!

Ice on the insides of the windows.

I was kidding about watching for Eskimos and polar bears because it was so cold so John texted me this picture he made of our back yard for fun. LOL.
